The 1939 Warner Brothers’ classic film ‘The Wizard of Oz’, based on a book by the same name, has moved and delighted audiences of several generations with the story of Dorothy, and her remarkable journey getting lost and finding her way back. The fantasy drama, filled with interesting characters, emphasized some fundamental truths about home and belonging, and the deeper meaning of life. The Yellow Brick Road, transitioning from a gray landscape to one of vibrant colour, forms a crucial backdrop in this tale of friendship and deceit, love and loss. It can be seen as a metaphor for the path to self-discovery, as the main protagonist encounters people, adventures, challenges and sundry provocations as she is forced to look critically within herself for answers.

Taking inspiration from this context, the exhibition offers a contemplative space that is symbolic of the passage through life’s complexities. The ten artists featured in the exhibition approach the subject through varied lenses, observing the tangible world, exploring personal philosophies, creating commentaries and communicating internal experiences, traversing both lightheartedness and gravity. In a gentle overlapping of fiction and reality, abstraction and representation, the compilation of work in varied mediums presents expressions stemming from our contemporary times and reflections on the human condition.
