Shweta P Raina is Delhi (NCR) based visual artist. Her visual language explores and portrays her experiences that resonate with deeper emotions and often unseen realities of tangible and intangible nature. Her works are artistic records. Shweta has a BFA and MFA in Printmaking from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan in 2000. The tactile possibilities of a deep etched zinc plate and embossing became the tool that enabled her to unravel the myriad possibilities beyond a two-dimensional visual surface. She invests her time now working with paper and wood. Her aim is to reach out to each viewer and let them have multiple layers of experience, adding on to it their personal interpretation of it.
She continues to be a part of various art exhibitions and camps across the country. Facilitating art workshops as an Art Educator and mentoring the young generation runs parallel to her trajectory as an artist with an aim to enhance general emotional intelligence. She has illustrated for ‘American Express magazine’, Eklavya Publications and Asmi Publications.
ARTIST STATEMENT
For me, art making begins with my evaluation and study of the emotions generated within me in response to an observation or an experience; and reaches a high point when such thoughts gain consummate expression on my canvas and launch themselves as a conduit between my ideological premise and the viewer, to set forth dialogues that may or may not ignite transformations. I therefore regard my work as my voice. My journey involves assimilating, integrating and weaving various aspects of life from their scattered state to an integrated one, similar to us having separate layers within us and yet we all are interconnected.
