Mukesh Sah was born and raised in Uttarakhand, a mountainous region in North India. Growing up amidst forests, rivers, and rugged terrains, the landscape of the Himalayas continues to shape the conceptual and material foundations of his practice. Sah initially studied science before moving to the humanities and graduating from the University of Allahabad. Early in his career, he worked as an illustrator and later as an Art Director with major media organizations including The Times of India, India Today Group, and Hindustan Times. In 2017, he left his position at Hindustan Times to pursue his artistic practice full-time.
Sah has exhibited widely in India and internationally. Recent exhibitions include group shows at ICA Gallery, Jaipur in 2025; Art for Hope at CCA Gallery, Bikaner House, New Delhi in 2025; and Together at LKA, New Delhi in 2025. In 2024, he participated in exhibitions at Seoul National University, Gallery Seom, and K-Art Centre in South Korea, as well as a group exhibition at the Visual Art Gallery, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. His work has also been featured in publications such as Navbharat Times, Hindustan Times, and Sahitya Akademi’s Indian Literature.
